Criosfera is a table lamp designed by Giulia Foscari for Artemide, inspired by ice cores extracted in Antarctica. Its form recalls an ice cylinder, a stratified memory of past climates. It features a recycled blown glass diffuser with an internal LED core, the structure of which evokes the superposition of polar layers. This luminous volume rests on a brushed aluminum base, with engraved surfaces indicating the CO₂ levels recorded in the ice over 800,000 years: pre-industrial values, in white, contrast with recent levels engraved in orange, culminating at 422 ppm in 2024. Designed as a manifesto piece, Criosfera translates the vulnerability of climatic balances into a visual language. It illuminates as much as it alerts, making light a vector of awareness.
