The famous Danish functionalist architect Vilhelm Lauritzen designed the VL 45 Radiohus pendant in the late 1930s as part of his total work of art, Radiohuset (The Radio House), the headquarters of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, which was inaugurated just after the end of the Second World War in 1945.

Lauritzen designed the pendant and all other lamps for Radiohuset in collaboration with Louis Poulsen. The pendant was initially named the studio lamp, featuring a three-layer glossy mouth-blown glass shade and untreated brass details.

The design retains its excellent lighting benefits and luxurious, quiet appearance that aligns well with today's contemporary interior trends, where it showcases beautiful variants of the original opal white version in pale pink, pale yellow, and amber.
