PH Snowball adopts the construction principle developed for the PH Louvre, designed by Poul Henningsen for the Adventist Church in Skodsborg, Denmark.

Unlike the PH Louvre, the Snowball consists of eight shades mounted on three supporting struts. Its diameter is more contained, as the fixture was developed for spaces with more moderate ceiling heights.

Presented for the first time in 1958 alongside the PH 5 and the PH Artichoke, the PH Snowball did not immediately enjoy the same success as these two models. However, a revision of the design and its reintroduction in 1983 helped restore this pendant light to its rightful place in Henningsen’s body of work.

Today, it is made with white shades that feature a glossy upper surface and a matte lower surface. The tops of the shades are glossy to create a sparkling light. The undersides are matte to avoid reflections from the light source.
